Crowns

BEFORE

AFTER

A crown is a permanent covering that fits over a tooth that is either decayed, damaged or cracked. Crowns are made from a variety of different materials and we offer the following types: all porcelain crowns, porcelain fused to precious metal crowns and full gold crowns. The process for receiving a crown generally consists of 2 appointments over a 2-3 week period. At the first visit, Dr. Burwell will sculpt the tooth to provide an ideal fit for the new crown. An impression is taken of the shape of the tooth after sculpting and the impression is sent to a lab for processing. A temporary crown is placed during the interim; when the permanent crown is being created. At the second or return visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is fitted onto the tooth. After ensuring that the new crown has the proper look and fit, the crown is cemented into place permanently.
